You can take prozac indefinitely. No long term effects r known about. But remember prozac is only 15 years old or thereabouts, so any very-long term effects r not know yet.
Some people have been on the older tricyclic antidepressants for many years with few problems.

There have been some cases of the drugs stopping working - this is called poop-out. It does not happen much, but the thing is that it can normally be reversed by taking a higher dose, or switching to another SSRI antidepressant, or indeed a trycyclic one. Then after a few months u can switch back to the old one & it may well be effective once again.

Some people r on Prozac for years; if you're taking it for depression then ur doctor/specialist should review the medication & how it is working from time to time with you.

The minimum time u would take Prozac would be between three & six months, usually the latter. I am not aware of any research suggesting that Prozac 'stops' working - if you're worried u should ask ur doctor.

If u r currently on Prozac, & feel it is not effective, ur doctor can either change the dosage, or try u on another medication - there r many different anti depressants.

I think as long as it is working for u & you're not having any problems from it, then I'd say there is no definite amount of time that u can take it. I'd say as long as u need it or however long ur doctor says u need to be on it. Now I do not know about Prozac (I have not taken it), but other antidepressants I've taken have stopped working because my body got used to them.I'd start out on a low dose & the doc would have to keep increasing them until I hit max doses, because they just would not continue to help me.after awhile I would have to switch. However, drug resistant depression runs in my family, so that same scenario wo not happen with everyone. Hope this helps.

of course not, prozac raise your chemical to a certain level, once you stop it you will back to a level depends on your status

i know ones who have been taking prozac for 3 or 4 years according to the severity of the situation. there is no such condition like getting used to it and causing not to work anymore becouse it blocks the serotonin reuptake receptors.

i took it for a while. As long as you keep taking it you will be fine. Not sure if your body can get too used to it though. I was a dummy and just quit all together b/c I was on a budget. That is a big No,No. Ask your doc.
