I take prozac & have dont for a long time now. At first, I felt bad, as people would say ''oh, thats bad, u dont want to take it . . .its addictive'' but I have overcome this - no one needs to know that i take it, & without it, I could not function due to depression. As it is, I have gone to Uni & have a great job. I am not ashamed & feel that it works well for me just now. I was tried on Seroxat, but that made me worse.
I think that, if u find a drug that works well, then it can really help you. The problem is finding the right combination for each individual.
I would urge u to follow ur doctor is advice as he must have reasons for wanting to try it. The other issue is the alcohol - it is not recommended that u drink when taking any anti-depressants, as alcohol is actually a depressant. I know this sounds crap, but I dont drink any alcohol at all & havent for years - it made me emotional & distressed, not happy!
best of luck whatever u choose to do, hope I have helped xxx
Prozac and Trazodone are both good medications.
I have taken them in the past. They helped for a few years.
Eventually they stopped working as well. If this happens to you, do not lose hope, remember there are many other good medications to try. Good Luck
It depends on the person as every body is different.
I know what you mean I was self medicating with alcohol also and now I am doing really good now that I am medicated the right way! good luck!
Millions of people have.
Unfortunately it may take 2 weeks before your depression lifts, and you may have to try several antidepressants before you find one that works, but I can guarntee if you use alcohol as a substitute, your problems will get worse
Both are effective. Trazadone will make you pass out, so obviously only take it at night, unless your doctor says otherwise. I take Prozac, and it works well for me. Trazadone did not work well for me. Prozac takes up to 6 weeks to take full effect, but you should see some improvement within the first couple of weeks.
Best of luck.
I have PTSD and I use Prozac and it helps me greatly with my sympoms and there are really no side effects for me.
