l recently started taking Prozac, 10 mgs. for depression. l immediately got anorgasmia, and a significantly lowered libido. My psych. says this may get better with time, but my understanding is that these types of side effects rarely improve. Anyone know the answer to this?

Will anorgasmia and lowered libido caused by Prozac get better with time

Sexual dysfunction rates of SSRI antidepressants r very high, there was a comprehensive study done about 10 years ago, looking at 4 of these drugs, examining pre-drug sexual function, then what happened over a time period on-drug. sexual dysfunction rates ran from 54-65%. One doctor decided to question his patients on Prozac. & suddenly found that 75% of them had some form of drug-induced sexual dysfunction.

There r occasional reports where the sexual dysfunction has remitted with a little time, but I've only come across a handful of them. It is usual for the dysfunction to continue throughout the use of the medication. The effects can be dose related, and, for some, lowering the dose may bring an increase in sexual function. however for others there is no return of function until the drug has been withdrawn. Rarely, it does not return.

Since u r on a relatively low dose (compared to the 20mg that many r started on) & have already encountered severe sexual effects, u may find the relevant chapter in Joseph Glenmullen is book on these antidepressant side-effects to be of interest (the book won a medical award). The book is 'Prozac Backlash', Chapter 3 covers the sexual dysfunction effects, plus the background, scientific studies, & possible approaches. note the pros & cons of adding another medication to counter the effects of the first. It is well worth getting the book out of a library, because the chapter is about 28ish pages long & should be able to provide u with to ur questions. It allows an individual to make an informed choice on the matter.

If u r a lady (?) & have the lowered libido, & anorgasmia. u may/may not find that u have reduced lubrication (loss of arousal), & possibly reduced genital sensation/numbness.

This is pretty normal for any medications.I was in ur same situation & tried everything to restore it. I switched pills a couple times & gave up, the libido was just not coming back. I then found a natural herbal enhancer that is supposed to increase ur sex drive & a couple other things. It is called Hersolution gel, read up about it at herenhancement.com where I saved on it at the time. However it is like an instant libido rush & as I kept using it my sex drive was through the roof & continues to be. The sensation blast is great too, I can not tell u how many times I've had multiple orgasms when before I could not even get a single one. Theres also capsules u can take that I've heard r better but I do not like swallowing many pills throughout the day. I was skeptical at first but the return policy was so great that the company was offer. From what I remember u had to try it out for a couple months but then u had time afterwards to return it for a full money back if it did not work. I did not have that problem as u can see. Well good luck & I hope this helps.

Probably not. Have you tried Wellbutrin XL instead ?
Different people have different reactions but someone would have a difficult time convincing me to take Prozac.

I had those medicines and i too felt the same. It will get back to normal once you stop them. After 28 i have now felt reduced desire and am no more interested in sex

according to your age. this may get better in time. but if you're over 35, this may be an ongoing thing. give your body enough time to adjust to the prosaz. you have not taken it long enough to know yet. six months from now--if you're still having this problem, go on another kind of med with less side-effects. good luck.
