What are the side affects or affects of going cold turkey on Prozac™

Talk to ur doctor. Your doctor can not make u take antidepressant medication, so even if he or she is reluctant to help u stop taking them or strongly suggests something else, if u really do not want medication, be adamant. Now, that being said, prozac has a very long half life, so the ''withdrawl'' symptoms of going off of prozac r less likely to occur than say, going off of something with a shorter half life such as Zoloft. It also depends on ur dosage & how long you've been on it, if you're on a low dosage, say 20 - 40 mg & for a shorter amount of time, then it probably wo not effect u much. It is always better to go off any medication while under the care of a doctor though.

Sometimes people start feeling better & think they do not need their medicine anymore, sometimes we think we know better than the doctor. I did this once too, the side effects were emotionally & mentally disturbing. I got terribly depressed. I was on it about a year & then insurance would not cover it anymore.

It did not go well so I turned to my doctor & together we weaned me off it. But soon enough we replaced Prozac with a cheaper alternative. I will say Prozac did a good job for me. It is not for everyone.

You need to come off of prozac slowly and I would recommend you call your doctor about reducing your dosage if you wish to come off of it. It could cause you to become very stressed out or depressed. Give it some serious thought before you quit cold turkey.
