When is it ok to switch from Prozac to Wellbutrin

I personally think there would be no problem changing from Prozac back to Wellbutrin since they r both anti-depressants, & there was no problem making the switch previously. HOWEVER, this is something which u need to talk to ur psychiatrist about. Nobody on can answer that question without guessing. Your doctor is a professional who knows more about medications than we do.

Call ur doctor & ask for his nurse. Ask the nurse ur question & she will then forward it to ur doctor. You will get a call back from the nurse with an answer.

Since it is the weekend, u may want to call ur pharmacist. He should be able to answer ur question. They have been helpful for me when I had to call them regarding medications on the weekend.

For peace of mind, it is probably better to get a professional answer.

What did ur psychiatrist say? He/she should have let u know if u need to be off Wellbutrin for some time before taking Prozac. Sometimes u need a break between & other times u can go right to the new one. I know if u switch from Prozac to Wellbutrin or another antidepressant then u have to wait.
Check with ur doctor.
I switched from Celexa, which made me dizzy & tired all the time, to Wellbutrin, & I like it a lot better. I do not notice any side effects with it & I feel a lot better.
Was Wellbutrin making u sick? or did u not get any positive results with it?

Wellbutrin is one of the only antidepressants that has a reputation for weight loss as a side effect. I was on it for several years & lost about 20 pounds. If u have taken Prozac only once, it should be no problem switching back to Wellbutrin right away. I have been on both drugs. Prozac & similar antidepressants have a tendency for weight gain in many people.

Since I am not a doctor, I should add the advice above is based on my own nonmedical experience. It is always a good idea to talk to ur doctor before making changes in medication. Sometimes, the doctor will come up with an idea that is better than the one u thought of.

By the way, I just re-read ur question. If Prozac interacts with Adipex, why did not ur doctor tell u that? Did u get that information from a pharmacist or other reputable source? I wish u well.

It is okay to go back to Wellbutrin, I do not understand why you got off it in the first place. It is a very unique medication, not an SSRI like Prozac and it does not cause weight gain.

Prozac only works on serotonin but Wellbutrin balances 3 neurotransmitters and serotonin is one.

Make sure your doctor is aware next time you see him.

It is OK to do so when your psychiatrist is told all this and says it is OK.

If your meds are not being prescribed by a psychiatrist, you have more problems than just ''choosing'' a medication.

I would suggest not taking anti-depressants because a vast majority of the time they do not work and cause side effects that can make you sick. I took Paxil for three years and I suffered terribly from a withdrawal.
